NNEMoCA at S.E.A.B.A.
NNEMoCA, through its President, has had a long history and relationship with the South End Arts & Business Association (S.E.A.B.A.).
This organization is the presenting organization of The South End Art Hop, the largest visual art event in Vermont.
Beginning in 2003, the S.E.A.B.A. undertook a series of art-centered fund raising and community building events. Works of art were solicited from association artist members and friends, within certain specific themes.
Works created as part of these projects and selected from NNEMoCA’s Collections are on display at the S.E.A.B.A. Offices at The Vaults Building on Howard Street in Burlington, Vermont.
Also, another installation featuring works related specifically to The South End Art Hop is also on display at the same location.

Collecting Art….What About It?...
A panel discussion with Mark S. Waskow, President, Northern New England Museum of Contemporary Art (NNEMoCA); Edie Simon, Board Member, The Current, and others…
What does one need to be an art collector? Is it only for the well-heeled? Is there a right way and a wrong way? How does one determine value? Should art be acquired for particular locations? How does one start? What does patronage mean in 2024?

Dwyer Works on Display in Europe
Two works by Nancy Dwyer from NNEMoCA’s Collection were selected for inclusion in a major retrospective exhibition of her work at Kunsthalle Winterthur in Switzerland. This exhibition was held from September 8 – December 1, 2024.
Nancy Dwyer’s works often include buzzwords, aphorisms, or short, memorable phrases incorporated into the design of their compositions. She was a member of the “Pictures Generation” along with other notable artists such as Cindy Sherman and Robert Longo, and was included in an exhibition of the works from this period at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2009. In 1974, she co-founded Hallwalls, an influential regional art center, in Buffalo, New York. Nancy taught art at the University of Vermont from 2004-2019, and served as the Chair of the Art Department during a portion of that time.

UnderKnown Artists and NNEMoCA….
A talk presented by Mark S. Waskow, President,
Northern New England Museum of Contemporary Art (NNEMoCA)
Most artists are never ‘discovered.’ What does that mean? Does that have a bearing on creativity? What does society seem to be looking for? Why is overlooking these artists a mistake? How do fame and money intersect with quality and originality?
These questions and many others are examined in this wide-ranging talk. Also, a trailer from a movie being created about NNEMoCA by RetroMedia was shown.

Deep Impressions: Elinor Randall, Master Printmaker
Originally scheduled to run through July and August 2023, the exhibit was put on hold due to the July flooding of Barre that impacted Studio Place Arts. We are pleased to share Randy’s work with more people (and happy to report that Studio Place Arts is recovering well).
Elinor Randall (Randy), a master printer who studied under George Grosz and Marshall Glasier, made a life in Vermont in her later years. As a youngster, Randy spent much time with horses, and identified with them to the extent that she admitted to having few friends, and found herself spending most of her waking hours working with and taking care of horses. These became a dominant theme in her artwork. She connected the beast of burden role of horses with the role of women in society.
